Step-by-Step Instructions
Preparing the Garlic Butter (Optional)
If you choose to make the garlic butter, it will add about 45 minutes to your total time, but it’s worth it for the extra flavor.
- Roast the Garlic: Preheat your oven to 425°F. Cut the head of garlic across the top to expose the cloves. Place the garlic on a sheet of foil, drizzle with olive oil, and season with salt and pepper. Wrap the garlic in the foil and bake for 30-45 minutes until the cloves are golden brown. Let it cool while you prepare the rest of the sandwich components.
Preparing the Chicken
- Preheat the Oven: If you’re not making the garlic butter, preheat your oven to 350°F.

- Butterfly the Chicken: Slice the chicken breasts in half horizontally to create thinner pieces. Place each piece between a sheet of folded parchment paper and pound with a meat mallet or rolling pin until they are evenly thin.

- Set Up Breading Station: Prepare three shallow dishes – one with flour, one with beaten eggs, and one with breadcrumbs mixed with grated parmesan.

- Season and Bread the Chicken: Season the chicken with salt, pepper, and optional garlic and herb seasoning. Dip each piece in the flour, then the egg wash, and finally the breadcrumb mixture. Let the breaded chicken rest on a plate or cutting board.
Preparing the Rolls

- Prepare the Sub Rolls: Slice and slightly hollow out the sub rolls. Spread butter (or garlic butter if using) on the inside of each roll. Sprinkle fresh grated parmesan on top. Place the rolls open side up on a baking sheet and bake for 10-15 minutes until the tops are golden and the bread is toasted.
Cooking the Chicken

- Fry the Chicken: In a large pan, heat enough oil to cover the bottom of the chicken pieces. Fry the chicken cutlets over medium heat until golden brown on each side, about 3-5 minutes per side. Transfer the cooked chicken to a plate lined with paper towels or a cooling rack to absorb excess oil.

Making the Salad
- Prepare the Caesar Salad: In a bowl, toss the chopped romaine lettuce with Caesar dressing. Add freshly shaved parmesan and mix to incorporate.

Assembling the Sandwiches
- Assemble the Subs: Place a chicken cutlet inside each toasted sub roll. Top with the Caesar salad and extra parmesan. Serve immediately and enjoy!

Tips and Variations
- Shortcuts: Use store-bought roasted garlic or garlic paste if you’re short on time. Pre-made garlic butter can also be used.
- Variations: Swap out the chicken for breaded fish fillets for a different twist. For a spicy kick, add a dash of hot sauce to the Caesar dressing.
- Storage: Store any leftover chicken cutlets in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 3 days. Reheat in the oven to maintain crispiness.
Food and Drink Pairings
Pair your Crunchy Chicken Caesar Sub with a side of sweet potato fries or a light vegetable soup. For beverages, a crisp white wine like Sauvignon Blanc or a refreshing iced tea complements the flavors perfectly.
